View Full Version : Pacers find taker for Artest: Kings
Word is they'll trade Artest for Stojakovic.
But ... now ESPN is reporting that Artest whined that he doesn't want to play in Sacramento, the Kings found out, and said "fine, fuck you too, no deal!"
What a bonehead.
On again ... Sacramento must have promised Artest a couple nights at the Palms with some Real World ho's.

I can't stand the NBA because of player like Artest.

Like they don't have 'em in the NFL ... MLB ... NHL (entire league) ... ?

Yep. T.O. is the NFL's version. I don't watch the NBA, but sometimes it seems there are a higher concentration of those players though.

Can't forget Randy Moss. Or Keyshawn Johnson.
Hmm, I'm noticing a trend here.

There's only one asshole in the NHL thank you very much... but once those black people learn how to skate then god help the NHL.
And really, they aren't all about money in the NHL either, especially under this new system. Somehow Antonio Davis earns more money a year then the top paid player in the NHL. Go figure that one out

They brought down their league for an entire fricking season over money issues. NHL players are the current poster boys for 'me-me-me' stupidity, the NBA and NFL players can't even compete.
Antonio Davis earns more because his league is vastly more successful and his union negotiated a smarter deal. NBA on ESPN, TNT, and ABC .... NHL on OLN .... do the math.

oh yeah, the nfl, nba, or mlb has never gone on strike.
give me a break. those other leagues all had something that the nhl didnt; a real tv contract.
they told the players theyd make less money by instituting a salary cap. and the owners didnt have the money either way. spare the comparisons.

Just pointing out the facts, none of those leagues went dark for an entire year ... the NHLPA set a new standard for cutting off your nose to spite your face.
NBA & NFL & MLB players make more money for a really simple reason: more people watch.
That being said, I would have expected either the NBA or NFL players to screw up their deals just as badly as the NHLPA in the next few years if the hockey players hadn't shown them what a disaster that is. We could still see a lengthy NBA or NFL strike, but it's less likely now that the consequences have been so recently emphasized in hockey.

they dont get paid because they dont have a tv contract.
the owners didnt want to keep paying the prices for players because they didnt have one.
the players didnt want to make up to 50% less money than they were already making.
most of the players went overseas and made as much money playing for their own countries.
you got it wrong if you think it was the players being money hungry. its them not wanting to make less money per year. not because they wanted more.

The NFL situation is really bad, if they don't sign the new agreement then from what I heard the salary cap is gonna go away. Then I will no longer watch professional football.

They wanted to get paid like they were bringing in NFL revenues, when the only league they were beating for revenue was the WNBA ... how was that ever going to happen? When you negotiate based on the way you wish things were instead of the way they are, you get shitty results .... the NHLPA got one of the shittiest results for its members EVER.
But ... they learned. Probably won't happen again for a while.

well whatever
you dont seem to know much about the nhl strike other than what you think all strikes are about.

How much more specific do you want me to get, do I have to describe what Bettman had for lunch on the day the lockout started?
It was about the owners trying to break the union and the union insisting on more than was ever realistic ... so yes it had much in common with other strikes. The players refused to even consider a salary cap ... and although I understand how they got to that viewpoint, because the owners had thoroughly cooked the books in earlier years and made any salary cap tied to 'revenue' untrustworthy in the players' eyes ... realistically they were never going to get a deal done without giving the owners some method of accurately forecasting their payroll costs.

That still doesn't explain why someone WHO'S NOT EVEN ANY GOOD like Antonio Davis, earns MORE MONEY then the highest paid player in the NHL who actually IS good. The strike was more then just money, it involved rule changes that the players didn't like, the treatment of rookies. And the NHL is on more then OLN dude, think ESPN, think Fox sports, think it's own channel on satelite and then the 4 canadian sports channels all play NHL, plus CBC.
Of course the NBA didn't go on strike, they weren't being told stupid things like "33% reduction in pay" or "to make the game more interesting we're raising the net another foot" or "rookies can only earn 100k for the first couple years". You could bet they would strike, regardless of their TV contracts if the league wanted to change things like that.

they have no national tv deal. every other sport does.
all i can watch around here is maybe the blue jackets once in a great while.
i never see any of the teams play, other than 1 game a week on espn. thats not a tv deal that will get them any money or anything else.

Well I thought that was like that for most things? I don't get to see much of anything other then Toronto until the weekends, 1 or 2 basketball games on NBC, football on CBS and fox, baseball on fox/sportsnet. But I see on TSN at least once a week other teams from outside toronto play hockey.
Guess I wouldn't know though about you guys, we tend to get a lot of every sport where I am.

yah thats because you are in canada dude. we dont get all the canadien channels. what the hell is tsn anyway?
nba is only abc, espn, and tnt. you can watch basketball everynight. and you get to chose between 3 or 4 games. not to mention the home town team.

The last NBA agreement set a specific pay scale for rookies that locked 1st-round picks in for 3 or 4 years, and they just imposed a new minimum-age rule for draftees and a developmental league for those who suck.
Antonio Davis originally got a good contract because he was a consistent double-digit rebounder and physical post player with a decent shot. He earns more money than NHL players for the same reason he makes more money than CBA players -- because his league makes a shitload more money and they not only have a salary CAP, they have a salary MINIMUM and sensible revenue-sharing.
Would the NBA be better off if it was more like the NFL and nobody's contracts were guaranteed, and the Knicks could just cut Davis's ass today now that he's not as productive? Absolutely.
