Those games are dumb. You're dumb.
You should play board games like Arkham Horror, Power Grid, Puerto Rico, Settlers of Catan, and Carcassonne.

I play both types of board games. Scrabble is awesome but I can't play with shoki for obvious reasons.
card games are also sweet (Chrononauts, The Great Dalmuti, Guillotine, etc.)

I like card games. I haven't played Canasta in years. Love it though. Lots of fun.

The Great Dalmuti is so fun, my deck got trashed from playing so much. i played Ticket to Ride a few time and thought it was fun. Ive played a game called Bananagrams that was fun. Its like speed scrabble.

Arkham Horror took us 8 hours the first time.
Now it's usually 2-4 hours.
Our fastest game was about an hour, but that was a fluke.

Why should I? You never go with me to church on Sunday mornings. Always out late with those young ne'er do wells you call friends on Saturday night drinking and smoking. And you never wear that lovely elk sweater I made you last year.

blokus is really sweet...it's great for people who have visual/organization strength. the rules are simple so it'd be fine for young kids. also, zero prep time.

I have yet to play Agricola, Ingenious, or Dominion. I heard Agricola is pretty good, BSG is fun as long as everyone is the right mindset (not just shouting "You're a Cylon!"). Munchkin is absolutely great. You cannot own or mix enough Munchkin decks together - My current deck is medieval super pirates.

Killer Bunnies is the worst game ever created, worse, I dare say, than Monopoly.

Let's take a card game, severely based on luck and randomize who wins based on secret face-down card draws!

I was disappointed. Maybe it would improve with a rule modification, but i didn't like how territory you conquered in one turn pretty much had no impact on your next turn. I did like the mechanic for selecting a race/class combo.

I've only played BSG once, but really liked it.
Dominion was the best one I played this week. I recommend this one over Agricola.
Munchkin was ok. I think it'll be more interesting with more people.
Killer Bunnies was terrible. The winner is decided by drawing names out of a hat. The only thing the game does is determine how many times your name is in the hat. Even without the horrible endgame, I still don't think it would be fun.
Carcassone is really simple, but it's still pretty fun. Definitely worth a try.
Race for the Galaxy is pretty mediocre. There's definitely better games out there.
I'm trying my friend's game of Civilization tomorrow. I imagine that taking all day, but I'm looking forward to it.

I frequently play chess, risk, and stratego.
As for card games, I play hearts, spades, cribbage, and occasionally bridge

i got killer bunnies for Christmas one year. And then nothing for the next year.
guess which year of presents i prefer!
Also, i love BSG because I can yell out who is or isn't a cylon.
Arkham is good because you can read a book at the same time and you don't miss a thing, if you already know how to play.
Puerto Rico rocks.
and...
I actually played Risk last month and liked it.
Me being a girl, I would have guessed the opposite, but it was fun!

Highly Recommended:
Hive: Awesome quick simple strategy game.
Terra Nova: Another very good simple strategy game.
Mediumly Recommended:
Last Night On Earth The Zombie Game: It's pretty ok for a dice rolling combat game.
Heroscape: Another dice rolling combat game. You get to build the terrain and have really cool characters like dragons, robots, matrix-like guys, samurai, and an orc riding a dinosaur. The basic game is worthless, do not even bother, but the advanced games seems like it will be fun.
Lowly Recommended:
Castle Panic: Simple tower defense game. Fun, but I don't see much replay value to it.
Not Recommended:
Blokus: Play ingenious instead.
Fluxx: For the most part, you just flip over the cards and see what happens. Sometimes you get to decide which card to play and on very rare occasions it might even have a strategic implication.

Highly Recommended:
Railways of the World: The stress of debt is an interesting mechanic.
Ad Astra: Like Catan in space, but with more strategy because dice are replaced with actions.
Puerto Rico: You have plantations with little brown people working on them. It's not that similar to Catan but will be enjoyed by the same crowd.
Mediumly Recommended:
Cash 'N Guns: Really simple bluffing game, and you get to point guns at each other.

Highly Recommended:
Tobago: Play cards to pigeon hole the location of a treasure
Ticket to Ride: Much simpler than Railways of the World, but still fun. Good entry level game.
Mediumly Recommended:
Power Grid: Buy power plants and fuel for them to power as many cities as you can. Pretty fun, but it's much longer than it needs to be.
Carson City: Worker placement game where you build buildings to generate income. You can place workers on the same jobs to have a duel. This one is actually too short. There's only like 4 rounds, so it's hard to accomplish much of anything.
Lowly Recommended:
Hacienda: Play cards to place tokens to score points. There's just not enough variety to it to keep your interest.
Day & Night: Play cards to flip over each other's tiles until you have enough of your own tiles connected. Not a bad concept, but the cards are so weak and limited that playing is tedious and unsatisfying.
Not Recommended:
BloodLust: Mostly just flipping over cards and seeing what happens. It might as well be Candyland.

I really like Power Grid.
Agricola is one game that gets ranked high on boardgamegeeks.com which I don't understand. It feels like you're doing 20 minutes of choices in a 2 hour game.

I got to play Kill Doctor Lucky over the weekend, it's really fun. it's like reverse Clue, you have to try to kill the old doctor before anyone else. the art's really good and the cards are funny.

Scrabble and Monopoly are my favorites.
