It's kind've the whole point of rep.

When I was a n00b, I knew who was deserving of my respect right off the bat. It lets the new guys know who to be like.

At this point, almost all of the regular posters have hit 11 boxes, and after that rep is pointless, except for the comments.

You get your first couple boxes way too quickly and then it stops at 11. Retool it so you gain them at constant rate and don't start up so fast.
