I don't see most of the newer animated films ... do those of you who do watch them agree with this analysis?

his first example was fantasia?
THERE WAS NO TALKING IN FANTASA BECAUSE IT WAS MUSICAL IMAGERY DUMBNUTS I haven't seen any of those modern, shitty looking animated films, though, so I wouldn't know. |

There's a big difference between jibber jabber (who are you, Mr. T?) and a film with no dialog.
It's like crying because your favourite movie dosn't have enough singing, and then comparing it to a broadway musical and going SEE? IT SHOULD BE LIKE THAT. |

I think it's because many of today's cartoons are going for more intelectual humor as opposed to watching a rabbit having a random heavy object dropped on his head.

I still like how Chris Rock snuck the word shit into Madagascar, though. Still makes me smile even to this day.

Instead of watching shitty animations like those, maybe try stuff like this: Garunteed to be more satisfying than Disney or Dreamworks. |

cartoons are also still ultimately geared towards children and dialogue, even nonsensical dialogue, keeps them engaged. i think shrek is a great animated film, plenty of cartoony goofiness for the kids and jokes even adults would appreciate. |

I think he's way off. This isn't to say that every chatterbox movie is a work of genius (most of them do suck), but there's a new wave of animation that IS very good but is written more like a traditional film. Ice Age is a good example of one of them, and though he sited The Incredibles as Lasseter's use of silence, he picked probably the ONLY part in the movie where the characters actually shut up for two minutes. There's no comparing any of the Pixar movies - except their shorts - to a Miyazaki film.

How else do you appeal to the ritalin-swallowing hyperactive monsters that are today's children, other than to pummel their senses with constant babble?
Last two things I've seen that could be considered modern animation are toy story and shrek; both had a lot more talking than was necessary (IMO) but I wouldn't have called it incessant either...I've not seen stuff like Robots or Ice Age...

plus all those colors are too bright and practically blind the audience
black and white is much more eloquent and we all know kids watch cartoons because they love culture. |
