I fucking hate working with high school kids

Sure, some of the chicks may be damn good-looking, but just about every damn one of them has gotten reduced at their request to about 10 hours a week, all in the evening, because of shitty end of year stuff. Or the ones who, despite having been there no longer than me, somehow were able to get 3 consecutive weeks off for end of the year stuff.

So we end up completely understaffed on courtesy clerks (2 until 3 in the afternoon) and I end up having to do their job instead of mine. THen I get yelled at by the various managers for not doing my "chores". Maybe if they wouldn't be so bendy with the little anorexic barbie dolls, I could get my work done, you damn pricks!

But no, no; instead I go back to putting up with bitchy flatscans and old people who can't walk ten feet without having such serious problems breathing that they have to sit down for half an hour to recover.

However, apparently I am damn good at doing that since, if it weren't because I could be terminated on the spot for doing so, I would have gotten about 120$ in tips today from customers because "I am so nice/friendly/helpful/considerate".

But, hey, as long as they pay me at my new wage instead of the bagger wage, I figure I'll just shut my mouth, smile, and take their money. In a few weeks, these kids will be off their work permits and doing 30-40 hour weeks. I wonder how many of them will become intolerable whiners (they are already closed when they can work--at max--20 hours a week) or will quit or will be fired.

EDIT: Oh, and we have a fucking awesome meat department with active employees from 4 am until 11 pm. People buy a lot of steak and bacon at 10:30 at night.

Company-issued ties that are pretty ugly, white dress shirts, black or brown dress slacks, black, shined dress shoes, and aprons (colored by department/position). Gets damn annoying when it is warm. 30-40 Hours a week, over here that would be illegal. How many months a year can you work under 18 in the US? Kids here are only allowed to work 1 month for some stupid reason.

Uhh, if they are in school or under 18, max is 20 hours a week as far as California goes. once they are 18 or out of school, they can work full-time. No month limits or something.

Actually, those underage labor rules get broken all the time. One of my friends just worked 7 days in a row for a total of like 48 hours and she's trying to get another job.

Well, if the board of labor were to be called in, the place she is employed at could be royally fucked up for violations then.

Again, though, the reason that my store probably follows them so strictly is because the union involvement means the DoL can and is likely to review all work hours for all stores to make sure everybody is kept in line.

I've worked full-time since I was 16.

Here, after you're 16, the only thing they care about is you working past 12am.

I had to get a note from my Mom to work the midnight shift on weekends.

I'm not allowed to use a regular ladder and wasn't allowed to use a step ladder until I got promoted up a step this week. If you are under 18, you cannot use the compactor or bailer. The compactor door can only be unlocked by a manager, service manager, or assistant manager between the hours of 4 am and 5 pm.The compactor door must be closed and locked whenever a manager or assistant manager is not within shouting distance.
