Holy crazy fucking shit. Its only been a week and some change, but it feels like ive been here for fuckingever. Recieving was almost the worst. Sitting around for hours drinking warm water in a cramped squad bay with no A/C then hurrying to another place just to sit there for hours. Of the two screw balls that came with me one already washed out due to some hearth thing as a kid. The other has turned out alright, but hes on the other side of the squad bay, so I might as well not be here with him. It really is a mental exercise here. There are 3 Drill Instructors, a senior then a 2nd and a 3rd hat. The senior DI cares about the way Ole Yellers owners cared, he likes us, but he'll also kill our fucking asses. Thankfully we havnt really smoked yet, but its coming especially because of some real fuck ups in our platoon.

The chow here is actually decent, but they think calling a piece of chicken a different name at lunch and dinner actually makes it different. To be honest one change would make boot camp fucn instead of an exercise for me. Cold beverages. My minifridge was at about 29-33 degrees at all times. So I'm used to some frosty drinks. Here luke warm water comes out the cold faucet, and in the chow hall half the drink machines are broke so you either get a warm water mixed with a little juice, or a slighlt less warm drink. Also we're all sick. It spread to all of us within about 2 days of getting here. Im puking so much snot that when i wake up my eyes are crusted shut, and I can blow a snot rope out my nose into the sink, and it not break. Its not too hot down here yet but its warming up, especially with no A/C. In our squad bay right now plus walking in the sun with our blouses(?) on one upside is I've got the best farmers tan I've ever seen. (those whole sentence's are messed up)

My shaved head feels great, but with these ugly ass portholes on my face it really detracts from my stunning recruit looks. So far it hasnt been to bad physically, except for a 3 mile run we did on saturday. Our time was just a little over 21 minutes, which isnt to bad for me becuase my recruiter would run us at about a 27 minute one. It hasnt been gotten to the rought parts yet, but as long as I can keep my head in the game I know I can do this. Thats abou it so far. Theres some stuff I glossed over, but I'll fill in the gaps eventually. I need to go work out now so stay frosty.

Holy fucking shit. This is some crazy shit right now, we're on Training day [sy]4[/st]5. I think everything has kinda blurred into chow to chow. We've got a great SDI + our 2nd + 3rd hats are fucking crazy but thankfully I've only been quarterdecked once. We've got some royal fucktards in 2056, and I can't wait till they're gone. We're finally learning to work together, but about half of us are to fucking lazy to drill properly. Any tips about the luke warm canteen water? It's making half of us sick to our stomachs + the other half puke on a nightly basis. Tomorrow is Memorial Day + the man is making us go up the third deck + watch some 1-4 hour long concert or some fucking shit. Anyways I need to write a few more letters before our free time is up

the lukewarm water thing is standard. it sucks, but it's not going to change.

the recruits aren't getting sick from the water though. it's the "Recruit Scuzz." 60 people from all over the eastern US coming to the same living area is going to spread a few bugs around, and people are going to get sick. nothing to prevent that.

the lightning thing is understandable... i don't know about getting under the racks though. there was a massive electrical storm all down the North Carolina and South Carolina coast that weekend.



definitions for gaters- if you get mail with strange words in it, odds are you'll find them below. if not, drop me a line, and i'll shed some light on it.

portholes: glasses
racks: bunk beds
the pit: a pit of sand roughly 30 feet to a side. recruits are exercised in the pit (or quarterdeck)when they step out of line. sweat form geting worked in the pit causes sand to stick all over the body and get in pockets, etc- and recruits aren't allowed to brush it off.
head: bathroom
squadbay: the long room devoted to the sleeping quarters of the recruits. they can hold roughly 74 people. there is a Drill Instructor "house" where the DIs can sleep and do clerical work related to the running of the platoon.
quarterdeck: a space between the DI's house and the head
smoked/quarter-decked: intense psychological/physical exercise on the Quarterdeck of the squadbay
DI: Drill Instructor
SDI: Senior Drill Instructor
2nd hat: the "heavy" or "kill hat." this man is the devil. he will destroy you on the quarterdeck or the pit and enjoy it. usually the lower ranking of the three DIs
3rd hat: usually specializing in Marine Corps knowledge or close order drill.

a) it is pretty disgusting. we got a battery of shots and stuff at parris island, but the common cold is a mean bitch.

b) i've been in the Marines for two years. i've never said otherwise.

c) he's going to need it. TD12(training day 12) is the gas chamber.
