Its been awhile since I got back, but I am lazy and just now am able to show you them. I didn't take any of these. I took just video, but here are some that I have taken from others on the trip.
This group is from Gamboa, a city on the Panama Canal: This is of the schoolhouse we stayed at. ![]() The bats that hung out at the entrance of the schoolhouse. ![]() This is a baby sloth we saw up in the tree, just laying on his back. ![]() This one is a croc from when we went croc and caimen catching. That was fun, only two girls were bit. ![]() This is of tiffany (moba), my girlfriend kissing a caimen. This is one of the larger ones we caught, and oddly enough the friendliest, guy just laid there, didn't even have to hold his head. ![]() A cane toad! ![]() Sunrise at canopy tower ![]() A howler monkey ![]() Toucan ![]() This is me with tiffany on our panama canal boat ride. ![]() A village on an island around the canal ![]() While on our boat ride, we went to an island appropriately named, monkey island. It has capuchin monkeys that come to your boat when they hear the motor, if you have food they jump all over your boat. This one is eating some fried bread we gave him. ![]() One of them attacking us. ![]() This is the resort we crashed, see in panama they really don't care what you do, so the guard would just wave at us as we entered. ![]() Skinny, pale, me enjoying a cerveza at the resort. ![]() Poison dart frog. ![]() Harpy Eagle, larger and rarer than the bald eagle. ![]() Red eyed tree frog ![]() Bulldog bat flying over a pool ![]() Ship going through some locks at the canal. ![]() These pictures are from Bocas Del Toro an island in the carribean off the coast of panama. We had fun getting there, only a 45 min flight from panama city to there, but we took off in a thunderstorm. Then the airport we get at, iinternational airport, is about the size of a a couple bedrooms. And the airport wouldn't be complete without a soccer field at the end of the run way, no fences seperating the two. Beautiful sunset. ![]() View out our cabin with coral reefs right off the beach. As for the cabins.....rustic. Our bathroom had a big hole where anyone outside the cabin could see you. ![]() Loved the view, that is Costa Rica way off in the distance. ![]() Me, climbing 85ft up into the canopy, sadly I don't have the picture of my hands afterwords, no one wanted to take that picture. ![]() Brown vine snake, a girl in a group picked it up to bring it over to me, which I told her it is mildly poisonous, she dropped it fast ![]() Eyelash viper, these come in bright yellow, green, blue, red.....we found a grey one. ![]() Tripod, poor dog, when he was a puppy he got hit by a truck and lost his leg. Also in Bocas, no one really owns the dog, the village just kind of takes care of all the dogs by feeding them scraps. ![]() A cave we went to. ![]() Los Olas and the highlands were the next destination. We went to Las Olas to go to a resort on the Pacific. Basically we had 24hours to have fun at the all inclusive resort. The professors decided to give my girlfriend and I, our own room and told us to do what we do "discretely" whatever that means. The pacific was quite rough, probably 15 ft waves, I had lots of fun swimming in it. ![]() Tiff and I enjoying the beach. ![]() Enjoying the all inclusive water bar. ![]() The Highlands had great scenery, but it kind of lacked in wildlife. Waterfall ![]() Beginning of a 5 hour hike ![]() Well we knew the hike was going to be tough to begin with, it was a hike that takes you up one mountain, down it, around a volcano, and up another mountain. We didn't know how tough this hike actually would be. It stormed heavily the night before, but didn't think to much of it, other that the trail would be muddy. Well 2 and a half hours into the hike we discovered our trail had been taken out by a landslide. It was a good hundred feet straight down, below you could see a river with knocked down boulders and trees. Basically we thought, oh well we will hike back, nope the profs told us we need to find a way around it, because the bus was waiting at the town on the other end of the trail. Well we end up haing to crawl up and around the side of the mountain, it sounds easier than it actually was, this side was steep, we had to crawl up it while holding on to roots, not knowing how sturdy they are On the way down we had to crawl underneath a huge boulder, and who knew how sturdy that thing was. So here are some pics, not the best, but you can get a small idea of it: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After the landslide we had to go through a valley. The valley basically was just knocked down trees, it looked like a bomb went off. We later found out, besides the storm, there were some tremors too. Here is a pic of tiff and I next to an uprooted tree. ![]() Definitely beautiful ![]() Well I have a lot more photos, but I'm tired, so I'm off. |

I'm not sure if they would have come out that well tho, I remember a lot of people having trouble focusing on it because all the leaves. I hope to get more pictures from people of the animals. Especially of the Tamandua (anteater), coatis, and capybara. Its kind of weird, the animals there really aren't afraid of people, they look at you, then will slowly walk off, they don't dart away. So most the time there is plenty of time for pictures (except for the macaw, kinkajou, and quetzal). When we saw the capybara he just stood there for a good 3 minutes just posing, before he charged me as he ran into the forest. Quote:
I also went for 3 weeks. Food there is really cheap, usually about $2 a meal. The most expensive place will be about $10. Beer in stores is about $.50 a can. In restaurants and bars is about a dollar (in bocas it was more for bottled water than beer). The all inclusive resort I believe was less than $50 a night, it was the off season tho. We stayed in a really nice hotel in Panama City, where the rooms were about the size of an apartment and it was like $20 a night. Because everything is so cheap it is kind of a secret retirment community for Americans (also because they use american currency there). A lot more there than I thought would be. Quote:
