not drunk, really, but tipsy. like after a few drinks when you're just getting buzzed and everyone in the world is your friend and you're like socially enthusiastic and want to shake hands and smile and nod fraternially. so like that, on an elevator. just now. and the others, that is: three out of the other four people on the elevator, are all kind of surpressing grins and shaking their heads and looking at the floor and muttering in that kind of elevator way that is like as in a mixture of having a private discussion but being aware that you are in a public and confined space wherein your private discussion is no longer private and you are filtering the discussion to be appropriate for such a public space, completely self-consciouswise, and they are saying things like "oh man that was the best movie ever" et al. and so then i'm all like, in my tipsy uber friendly state of being, like "SNAKES ON A PLANE?" Big grin. And they light up and there is mutual laughter and camradarie because somehow everybody just KNOWS that when somebody on this day in history mutters "best movie ever" that they can only be talking about one possible earthly movie.

earlier today: i'm running errands, and i'm thinking to myself: i can't see it tonight, but tomorrow night i'll definately be in the way of acquiring tickets to this particular entertainment, and the showing will be after dark, and i will want at this time to have some liquor to sneak in a flask in the pocket of my own personal sport coat that i will wear for just such a flask sneaking occasion in to the movie theater, and although i have the flask waiting and thirsty at home, i do not in fact have liquor with which to fill it. After dark tomorrow the liquor stores will be closed. so i in my errand running reasoning stop by the liquor store and buy for my very own self a bottle of snakes-appropriate booze which i carry home in the glove compartment of my scooter until the flask filling appropriate time.

so: back on the elevator: post-fraternal-laughter of elevator acquaintances who have shared (i and they have) a knowing round of laughter and brief conversation: as they step off the elevator what are the last words out of the probably similarly intoxicated mouth of one of the post-SoaP parties having heard me express how forward i am looking to looking for myself at the entertainment in question tomorrow night, but having no knowledge of my day's excursion, liquor-wise, these words to me from his grinning mouth as he exits the elevator are: "take a flask."

thanks, and two things--first, i really think you would enjoy reading david foster wallace. i've been meaning to tell you. not just that i think people in general would or should enjoy him, but that i think you in particular would like his style and prose. i'm thinking mostly of the novel Infinite Jest, which i am still reading, but of course it's good often times to start out with short stories, for sampling purposes. Girl With Curious Hair is a pretty good collection of stories, and I've read one or two from Oblivion. Check them out if you're interested.

also: a friend of mine is in town and he is also a computer/internet geek like present company. howzabout if you come hang out with us tomorrow in the pm, or are you like back at school already? if you are not already, i can assure you that this will be nonthreatening, mutually geeky company, on behalf of myself and the friend in question.
