i think they exagerate the luckyness
at the speed of that collision, it doesn't really matter how big something is but where it hits, since the used materials aren't capable to withstand the impact untill the entire mass hits |

When I was a kid, I used to crew in sailboat races for the city attorney in our hometown. After a couple whiskeys, he might loosen up a little and tell you about his experiences in WW-II. He was a waist gunner in a B-17 that was shot down over Germany late in the war ... somebody came along and blew off a big chunk of one wing, and the plane went into an uncontrolled spin. They had to crawl hand-over-hand to the escape hatch while the spin was trying to pin them to the wall. Three of them got out of the plane, the rest couldn't make it. |

What are the chances that two aircraft, flying in the vast space of sky, would actually crash INTO each other? It's got to be higher odds than winning the lottery.

Considering that the airports don't move, and that's we're they're coming from and going to, I say it's pretty good and that's why air traffic controlling is so stressfull

LA, seattle, denver, chicago, dallas, st. louis, chicago, NYC, DC, atlanta, miami, orlando... and a handfull of others just in the US. ATC at smaller airports have a pretty easy job. |
