Is it just me, or did Return of the King have like 3 endings?

Seriously, everytime I watch it I think that it should end three different times.

1. Frodo wakes up and everyone's happy. The end....oh, wait, no there's more...
2. Ah...Frodo, Gandalf, and Bilbo all leave, and now it's a sad ending. The end...what the hell, it's still going?
3. Cut back to Sam finally going home with his family. So...it's what, a sad happy ending? Sam was the fucking character I hated the most!!! God damnit!

seriously that's called wrapping it up. they werent endings themselves, they were tying up loose ends that could be tied up.

brent likes it when movies beat the bad guy and go right to credits before anything else can be shown.

See, I like the style where you beat the main nemesis and save the world about halfway into the story, and then the last half of the story is about fighting smaller, lamer nemesises. Like rats.

I'm not saying there weren't endings to be tied up, i'm just saying that during each scene when it fades to white, it seems like the movie is ending. Why shove in that last little bit about Sam returning home? The ship sailing away into the sunset is like THE cliche ending.

It's like when Micheal Jordan retired the first time. He ended his last game with a perfect jump shot, scoring points all cool like and going out perfectly! ...then he came out of retirement and sucked, and retired again on a low note.

And yea, this movie (and book for that matter) ended way too many times. If I remember correctly, the book took like 200+ pages to conclude. Conclusions should not take 200 fuckin' pages after the climax.

terry g-whatever can shatter that too. If he can spend 40 pages setting up camp for the night, I'm sure he can spend a few hundred (or maybe a whole book) on conclusion.

ah i see what you mean. Yeah it tricked you like 3 or 4 times

but i liked the same going home thing, to show that life still goes on even though frodo and all the elves and gandalf are gone forever

They actually cut an entire portion of the book out since they didn't want to have another climax/resolution. In the book, hobbits go back home to find that Wormtounge and Saruman have enslaved the entire Shire, and they organize the hobbits and fight to regain it. After this, Sam becomes Mayor and Bilbo/Frodo leave for the Grey Havens, etc.
