RULES

yes, rules. i wont do the huge thing i had before that explained everything. if i had saved it before the posts got eaten by the forum monster i would repost what i had before, but in absence of that i'll just post the general guidelines. so, 3 rules:

1. try to make your suggestion be one that EVERYONE has seen, because i probably havent, and it MUST be one you that have seen yourself

(the sort of classic you cant see how anyone could have missed and normally wouldnt think you would need to suggest it. THESE ARE THE MOVIES I'M MISSING the whole point to this is that there's a crapload of movies like that that i HAVENT seen. but dont just suggest a movie because you saw it once 5 years ago and liked it sorta and cant think of anything else to suggest. i'm not asking for as many movie suggestions as possible, if i wanted that i'd just find some huge list of every movie ever made and use that.

AND, in the possible event that i HAVE seen whatever movie you happen to suggest, i'll just add it to that section of the list and give it a rating anyway so you can see what i think of it! no shame in that, the only shame is in suggesting one that someone else already did )

2. TRY to avoid gore

(dont get TOO worried about this, but seriously. i dont like gore. i can handle blood or normal dismemberment/stabbing/beheading/slices so long as they arent giving lots of gorey detail. but anything overboard just bothers me. robocop wouldve scored a lot better without it for example. also, dont take this to mean that i care about other "content" except drugs, i dont generally care too much for movies with a lot of drug use)

3. CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR SUGGESTION WAS ALREADY SAID BEFORE MAKING IT

(i get a lot of amusement out of people who mess up on this one, but do save yourself the embarrassment by checking click "edit"->"find in this page" on your browser, type in the title, enter. quick and simple.)

if you follow just those 3 guidelines, your movie will be accepted and watched probably in short order . especially if you follow the first one properly. you'll be surprised at what i havent seen, so get suggesting!

i started with nothing, in october '05. i asked people on TGi for suggestions. they made them. i categorized them as they made them. i watched one movie every night that i hadnt seen. at one point i took a pretty long break from it, but i'm back into it full bore now, and the amount of anime i watched during that break almost made up for it.

before i started this what was wrong with me was people would mention just about any movie they had seen in the past that they naturally assumed i had seen and i would have no clue what they were talking about. look at some of the titles on the "viewed so far" list. terminator. back to the future. jaws. the godfather. young frankenstein. just movie after movie that anytime i'd say i hadnt seen them people were yelling at me..

so this is my revenge in a way . i plan to keep this up. eventually i will have seen far more movies than any of the people who suggested them for me will have, and thus will be able to give them recommendations.

There are better hitchcock movies than dial m for murder, watch rear window or straingers on a train instead. The graduate? Being there. Guess who's coming to dinner. Or did you not want recs?

each section is fairly self explanatory. several different sections.

watching next is what i'm watching that night.

ready for viewing is what i'll be watching the next couple of nights.

currently downloading is what i'm downloading right at that moment. movies dont stay in that category for more than a day usually, i do batches of about 5 at a time.

downloading next is what i'm downloading to watch next .

the download queue is the movies i'm immediately picking from to watch.

couldnt find is movies i tried to find torrents to download them with but was unsuccessful.

"movies viewed so far" is the movies that i watched as a part of this, those are the ones that fall under what you're talking about, those are the movies i've watched since i started doing it. 178 currently as it says.

i wont explain the other sections since this answers your question, except for "suggestions i've already seen before"....those are movies that people suggest for me to watch that...i've already seen before. i list them so that people who are trying to think of a movie to suggest can look at that list and see if someone else already suggested it.

i wasnt looking for suggestions but i wont necessarily turn them down. the point was to post this so people could see what i've been doing with myself for the past year and some months . i've seen rear window, it's in the "already seen" list, i've seen strangers on a train as well but i dont have that listed. but all the other ones you suggested i havent seen and they arent listed yet, so i might add them .

...i find torrents with lots of seeds. i use www.mininova.org for most of my download needs, isohunt for most of the rest, torrentz.com for the few i cant find on either of those. if i fail on all 3, it goes to the "couldnt find" list.

if you're having trouble with torrents perhaps you have ports you should open? what size do you normally download? for me movies are generally 700mb, but i've had as high as 3 gigs, which does take more than a day.

I've got my torrent ports open, but yeah typically I DL stuff that is rather large. Plus I have other people on my network that use the internet and torrents murder my speed, so I can only do it at night gay

I am a serious movie buff. I have seen all the movies on your "won't watch" list. The only ones seriously not worth watching at all were:

Fern Gully

Cheech and Chong Whatever

Girls Gone Wild

Cradle of Fear

Although I do enjoy vegging out to Fern Gully occiasionallly during a hangover because it's light and cutsie but can still remind me there are worse things in the world than what I am feeling at that moment.

The rest have sincere cinematic value in at least one aspect or the other and I highly recommend you watch them all at least once, even if it's only because you had nothing else available to watch.

Cradle of Fear is hilarious. Goriest movie I've ever seen. I bought it for my ex, who was a huge cradle of filth fan. Cost 30 bucks or something, really rare dvd. Shittiest movie ever though, aside from the comedy factor.
