Are Hockey fans pretty much in favor of the change?
Sudden Death OT > Shootouts IMHO. And the Ducks are ahead because more OT Losses? That is the biggest bullshit ever.

But as long as a playoff game is never decided by a shootout it is fine by me. hockey doesn't get much better than triple overtime in the playoffs

Pretty much the most intense moment in sports. No other sport even comes CLOSE to keeping you on the edge of your seat and heartrate soaring.

they should either take away the point for the ot/so loss or make a regulation win worth 3 points, ot/so win worth 2 points, and ot/so loss worth 1 point. |

some of my favourite playoff moments ever: morrison wins it in 3rd ot in game 6 to force game 7 vs the flames in that very game 7, matt cooke ties it with 5 seconds left to force ot. the canucks would go on to lose. an unbelievable clip regardless. kirk mclean making the greatest and most timely save in nhl history, in the 2nd ot of game 7. again against the flames, only 10 years before the last ones. pavel bure, winning that same game in the same ot period. |

There's a legitimate reason for doing the OT losses equals 1 point system and I agree..
Before it was put into place, teams weren't attempting to win OT, they were just tryin to not lose. OT during the regular season was boring as the only time a team was going to take a chance was late in the season if they desperately needed, and the other team probably didn't and just wanted one point. OT is now exciting in both the regular and post season now.

Which is different from before.. how?
Teams have always dropped on the defensive early for the single point.. now it's atleast not consuming part of the 3rd and overtime..

there is no risk now. thats the difference. before, you may not have had to win to get points, but you at least had to prevent the other team from scoring. now it doesnt matter.
