Manager tirades are a staple of the game.. they happen maybe once or twice a year but have been going on as long as baseball has existed... Now removing the bag. I think Llyod Mclendon made that famous.

I recognize the tradition while thinking it's a terrible style of leadership. Your leader shouldn't be a clown, and this guy made himself a clown in front of his own players. How does he ever ask anyone for self-control or discipline in the future with a straight face? He can't.

I was seriously thinking I was seeing a repeat of last year's dude when he started chucking the bases and covering home plate with dirt. Then he crawled up to the pitchers mound and chucked the chalk bag at the ump... instantly 1-ups last year's biggest manager's tirade.

He's a manager. He sits on a bench chewing gum/tobacco while periodically adjusting his howdoyoudo. That's about it.

And there are some fat players though, usually pitchers. Namely CC Sabathia... he's one fat fuck.

he's the batboy. Normally, he just helps switch out the bats for the different players, but sometimes if there's an on-field injury during the game, he subs in. You rarely see them play, but they're still right there on the field with the rest of the players.

They are few and fair between, baseball has the least athletic professionals of any sport.

except they so seldom occur that this isn't the same league as bobby knight. knight was known for yelling EVERY GAME. this guy explodes like this maybe once per season, it provides entertainment for the players as well as the crowd.

if he wasn't a good leader, he wouldn't have the job, and they'd hire someone like you- who is obviously much more of a professional than that guy.

Just a guess, but every manager in the minors is not Joe Torre.

In your profession, I wouldn't be shocked that you're a little more comfortable with the 'yelling as leadership' style than I am.

Eh, no, I'm suggesting there are probably several managers in the minors who aren't great leaders. They got the job because they were a popular player in the organization, or the owner's son-in-law, or cheap. Some of them turn out to be great managers and rise to the majors, some are never heard from again.
