Take a short break every 5 minutes to drink some water. 10-20 Seconds will do. That way you're keeping track of time for only 5 minutes max so it feels like you're near the end much faster than when you do 20minutes+ in one go.
It's much less demoralizing when you look down at the screen and see only 1:30 minutes to go than another 18 minutes. Even when you still have 3 more blocks of 5 minutes after your next break. I did 40 minutes like this today and was more fun than doing the usual 30 minutes in one go or with only 1-2 drinking breaks. |

Also, you can increase the calories burnt in each block. First 5 minutes I did 34 calories, then 35 and later 36-37 by going just a little bit faster.

Yeah but as long as you don't take too long drinking (only a few "chugs?" will do) it only drops like 20-30. Just go a minute longer and you'll make up for it.

You're going to lose out on the effect of a true 40-minute run by stopping completely every 5 minutes.
