The family unit is a completely different entity than it was even 50 years ago, let alone 100. Mr. Rogers is a the tiniest piece of the tiniest puzzle... it's barely scratching the surface of TV's role in child-rearing.

I do agree that this generation is full of sheltered whiny thoughtless pussies who are completely full of themselves with no justification, but I hardly think that's Mr. Rogers' fault. I'd much sooner blame hyperprotective parents and the whole lawsuit society we live in.

I disagree with so much in this thread, and i think a lot of you guys need to look at things in a different way. Instead of slandering our generations that we belong to, how about we blame the people CURRENTLY running the world? I think our generations will be able to run the world SOOOOOO much better than the fuckin baby boomers that are running it now. You realize it's THAT generation that considers paris hilton to be news, and OUR generations that hate them for it. I think we'll see a million aspects of life improve once more pissed-at-the-state-of-things generation X's and Y's (and whatever all the current teens-to-thirties generations are called) start getting into more positions of power, and start changing things.

You realize the people running our country now are STILL AFRAID OF VIDEOGAMES? fuck them, we can do so much better.

I like video games and movies for just this reason... they make us realize just how reality actually is. I would be willing to bet that a child raised playing video games is much more observant and understanding of reality than one who never touched a game, simply because video games teach us how to accept and embed ourselves in a non-reality. Having something opposite of something else makes both easier to understand.

And that's why my kid is gonna beat Marathon by age 5.
